Pricing

I charge for all work on an hourly basis. Before I start any project, I will email you an estimate after discussing the details with you and reviewing a sample if applicable. If you have specific questions about the information provided below, please contact me.

Writing Services

My rate for writing is $60/hour. The cost of a writing project will depend on my familiarity with the subject matter and the depth of source material you provide. I have written a 600-word blog post on a topic I know well in 30 minutes. I have written a 300-word summary of a highly technical paper in four hours. When you hire me to write for you, I will give you an estimate based on the subject, desired length, and provided source materials.

Editing Services

All editing projects are billed at a rate of $60/hour, with a 30-minute minimum per project. Five blog posts that you delivered to me in one batch are considered one project. A 12-chapter novel delivered to me one chapter at a time is 12 projects, each with a separate 30-minute minimum.

I generally edit between 2,000 and 6,000 words per hour, depending on the extent of the revisions needed. If you want an estimate for your specific project, please submit a 500- to 1,000-word sample of the work to be edited. I will look at that and tell you roughly how long it will take to complete the job.

If I do an in-depth content edit, I will send the project back to you to review, with the recommendation that I see it one more time for proofreading. It is not possible for me to meaningfully edit content and thoroughly proofread in one sitting. Human brains don’t work that way, or at least mine doesn’t!

My editing services can blend into coaching. If you are interested in that, I will provide explanations of relevant edits so that you can see why I have made them. This takes a bit longer than regular editing, so the cost will increase accordingly.

Coaching Services

Coaching over email, phone, or videoconference costs $75/contact hour. Prior to the session(s), I will review writing samples you have provided so that the time spent in the coaching session is targeted and efficient.

Rush Jobs

The time I need to complete your project will depend on how extensive it is and my current workload. I will discuss deadlines with you at the outset. If you need a rush job, which I define as work turned around in under one week, I can usually accommodate that, but I reserve the right to charge a 20% additional fee for projects with these deadlines.
